Ashley Young produced another disasterclass on Tuesday night as Manchester United lost 3–0 to Barcelona in the Champions League quarterfinals.
Just like last week in the first leg, the 33-year-old was awful at left-back and gave the ball away on countless occasions. If proof was ever needed that Young isn’t good enough for United anymore, his performance at the Camp Nou was it.
Young was undoubtedly to blame for Lionel Messi’s 16th-minute opener as he carelessly gave the ball away and then missed his tackle.
Messi then did what Messi does best by nutmegging Fred, running across the edge of the 18-yard box and then finding the bottom corner with unerring accuracy.
However, Young actually made FOUR errors in the buildup to Messi’s goal.
First he took too long at a free-kick and put United in danger by going backwards (1), then he passed the ball straight at Ivan Rakitić (2) before doing a pointless Cruyff Turn (3) and giving it away again (4).
Check out his horrible 15 seconds between 0:07 and 0:22 below:
Fans have taken to Twitter to vent their frustration:
Now it’s absolutely clear that getting rid of Young must be a priority this summer for Ole Gunner Solskjær.
